Over the four sessions we explored the basics of millinery. Looking at pillbox hats, paper patterns and wire tiaras.
Week 1:
In week one we looked at the difference between fashion and theatrical milliners. We also looked at materials used in millinery. At the end of the sessions we constructed paper hats using patterns from the book 'From The Neck Up - An Illustrated Guide to Hatmaking' allowing us to gain a better understanding of how hats are formed.

Week 2:
In week two we made pillbox hats. This was a simple but slow process. I chose to create a crescent moon pillbox hat which I'm really happy with the outcome of.
Week 3:
In week three we created hats from paper patterns. I chose to make a baker boy cap. One of the most useful bit of information I learned was about the importance of adding accurate seam allowance to ensure the garments line up.

Week 4:
In week four we looked at millinery wire and its uses. I decided to create a tiara shape and added fabric using a weaving technique. To begin we created wire circles exploring wire joining and then formed the shape on a head mannequin.
