In this project we explored designing costumes for a living history event. This project was based on the wartime diaries of Nella Last.
Week 1:
In week one we researched 1940s day dresses in groups, looking at common features and styles of the time. We then completed our own in depth research, allowing us to design costumes with a deep rooting in real life dress.
Week 2:
In week two I began rough sketching some ideas of silhouette and necklines. I developed these rough drawings into development drawings in preparation for my final design.
Week 3:
In week three I made my final design. I am overall very happy with my design for my 1940s day dress. In particular I like the way that I designed the fabric, creating the effect of a floral fabric while allowing a costume constructor freedom of fabric pattern.
