Metropolis is a film by the legendary filmmaker Fritz Lang and is often credited as the first very Si-Fi film.

Metropolis's vision of a futuristic city is a stunning use of set to completely transform the world of a film and transport the audience with it to that world. The vast scale of the set makes the people of the city appear like small inconsequential cogs in the machine of the city.
The extravagant costumes of the upper class highlight the deep inequality that exists in metropolis. The iconic transformation scene of Maria is a favourite of mine, the early style of special effects is very interesting to observe. Compared to modern day SFX they seem simple and unrealistic but at the time these special effects would have been revolutionary.
